Roerich Mobile Exhibitions in Israel
Recently our editor received the following letter:
"We are a group of Roerichites from the cities of Ashdod and Ashkelon, who study the cultural heritage of the Roerichs. After talking to people, Russian-speaking repatriates among them, we became convinced, that few people are aware of Nikolai Konstantinovich Roerich as an artist. We have therefore decided to organize mobile exhibitions of reproductions of his paintings so that Israelis may become acquainted with his activities as an artist and a cultural worker. We hope that the Light, which can be seen in his pictures (even in reproductions), will help people to comprehend the eternal values and forsake (for an instant) the vanities of the world so that they will have peace in their hearts. "Comprehension of Beauty will rescue the world" - is the motto that is guiding us.
In May 2003, we began lecturing in Ashkelon about N. K. Roerich as an outstanding artist and art worker, known for his many-faceted creative works. In December (2003) the first exhibition of reproductions of his art in Israel was held in the Centre of Arts in Ashdod. It was then displayed in Ashkelon in May - June so that city dwellers could admire the pictures as well. We hope that other exhibitions will follow.
